Tamp Labeller (VPT)

The system consists of a print-and-apply, label applicating system integrated into customer's packaging/testing line. The applicating assembly consists of a vacuum, tamp assembly on a pneumatically positioned arm. This arm moves to apply the label and automatically adjusts for the random thickness of the product or their contours. The tamp assembly uses two axis of motion to obtain the label from the printer. The first axis is a rotation which brings the vacuum pad into the throat of the printer and then rotates to distance the label away from the printer components. The second axis is a linear cylinder to tamp the label onto the product.

Among these are:

Pneumatic Actuating Arm.
The pad is supported and actuated by air cylinders that can be adjusted to act as passive spring followers. When the vacuum pad comes into contact with the product surface, these cylinder/springs allow the pad to follow the surface and apply the label without disturbing or damaging the product while assuring consistent label wipe down.

Self Adjusting Arm Stroke.
The cylinder which extends the pad arm is controlled by a sensor to detect physical contact with the product. This forms a simple compensation for varying product heights. In this way the system avoids expensive positioning operations and the dangers of using timers.

Multiple Levels of Control.
The cylinder which extends the tamp pad can be controlled by a variety of levels of control. The system can be controlled in a simple pneumatic fashion where cylinders are actuated from end stop to end stop or return signal. A servo-pneumatic positioning system and controls can be added to achieve a very high level of complex motion. (a servo-pneumatic system is half the cost of its electric equivalent).

Modular/Quick Change Construction.
All sub-assemblies are built as a module with connections made by mechanical quick release, electrical quick disconnect and pneumatic quick disconnect. This makes system upgrade and modification extremely simple.
